In 1992, he began an internship at the National Aquarium in Baltimore while completing his Zoology degree at the University of Maryland. At the National Aquarium in Baltimore, he assisted in the research and development of then innovative dart-frog husbandry techniques now followed and utilized by many of the private collectors and AZA institutions in the USA.
